SBE II Point of Aim

Postby 60's hunter » Fri Feb 14, 2014 11:34 am

I'm buying one this year & I found all sorts of answers for the point of aim on this gun,so I just got the real answer from Benelli-----it is 60-40 on the high side like most shotguns.

You need to pattern the gun to see if its going to work for you.

Oh yeah------I'll pattern it. My 870 shoots the same 60-40.

60/40 is going to depend on the size of your pattern. Mine shot higher than I liked with tight chokes and Benelli told me that they consider it within spec if the pattern centers not more than 8 inches high at 40 yards. That's an awful lot of under hold when aiming at a turkeys head or a crippled duck on the water. I put a taller front sight on to bring it down to meet MY required spec.

I will offer this advise to you ! With a new gun (any Model) you have a 50 % chance it might shoot CLOSE to where you're
looking ! Even if you adjust your mounting of the gun so you can see down the rib by raising or tilting you head !

With a new gun , if you were to check the LOP , drop at comb ,cast , then you would know by mounting the gun every time
in that comfortable relaxed ( head up ) position , you would automatically be looking down the center of the rib . NOW , you
could fine tune the POI , by patterning the gun with different loads to see (1) if any small adjustment was needed (2) if the
choke you choose ,shoots the load you started with where you're looking and how good the pattern was (3) you would experience
less recoil from this gun !

All these things will be , because you took the time to adjust the gun ( TO YOU ) First !
And at that time , you would know , what to adjust to get 60/40 patterns......90 percent every time !

FYI

Yeah, I hear ya------thanks for the input. If it hits too high, I'm the same way, it's just to much for the way I shoot.
