Upland/waterfowl combo suggestions

Postby jebuchanan » Sat Feb 22, 2014 12:37 pm

I am hoping to start waterfowl hunting a little next year and I am looking for a gun that can double as an upland gun. Looking at the maxus, sx3, and sbe II right now. Any suggestions on which might be the best dual gun would be appreciated. Weight is certainly one of my primary concerns as I like to walk a lot when upland hunting, but anything in the 7-7.25 range should be fine. Thanks for the help.

Any of those would be a good choice imo. I use my maxus for everything and it's been a great gun. Everyone has there opinion. I would suggest handling all 3 if you haven't and seeing which feels best to you

I have to agree. Pick the one that is cheapest in your area....you can't go wrong.

SX3 is the best value that will do it all. It is a soft shooter with heavy waterfowl loads.

I found a sx3 locally for $700 that could pass for new. Its the composite 3", 28" barrel and the black color should work fine for waterfowl. I don't think I am going to beat the price.

sa-08 has some great reviews, otherwise have you looked at any franchis?

The other guns are all good, but you sound like you do a lot of walking and at the end of the day ounces feel like pounds. The Benelli Montefeltro is light, reliable and with the wood stock a fine lookin shotgun that can shoot 3inch steel all day.

I'd go with that sx3 you found for $700. If it's that nice and shoulders well, why not? Don't own one personally but I have held them and haven't heard bad about them. It would be a great all around gun. I'd go for it!
