SX3

Postby widow-maker72 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:31 pm

I've made up my mind on the SX3 being my new shotgun. Going back and forth on used or new.. What would you consider a "good deal" on a new one? I have a local gun store that told me today he would sell me a brand new black synthetic 3.5" for 899 or the camo model for 999. Seems like a decent deal from what I've seen them priced for online, is it? Also, what is the difference in the waterfowl edition and the field model? Thanks in advance for any input.

Widow...

I just purchased a Winchester SX3 Waterfowl in early January. I paid $1050 for it. 12 ga camo finish, 28" BBL, 3" chamber. It shoots and points very well, handles the waterfowl loads without issue and patterns ok with the Carlson Black Cloud mid range and long range chokes. I shoot BC Snow Goose 3" #2's, BC FS Steel 3" #3's and Kent Fasteel 3" #'2's without any cycling issues from the gun. I am still working on finding the right choke/load combo to see if I can improve my patterns at 40 yards and beyond for goose hunting. From 40 yards and closer, this gun and choke combo I currently have are great.
The BC Snow Goose loads through the mid range choke are fantastic and any duck or goose within that range is toast. The Kent's are also good through both of the chokes, but start to loose their pattern at the 40yd mark. Black Cloud 3" BB's do very well out to 40 yards with the long range choke.
Make sure you totally disassemble the gun when you get it home from buying it and give it a thorough cleaning. There's alot of factory lube in there and it gunks up with residue and dirt. Use a good gun scrubber solution and then a light coat of gun oil/lube on the parts and you'll have no problems.
I love my SX3 and look forward to many waterfowl seasons with it! Good luck

I would consider either of those a fair deal. Not deals-of-a-lifetime, but not they-saw-you-coming deals, either. If the extra $100 won't put you on a cot in your parent's garage, I'd go with the camo.

Camo pattern....ShadowGrass rather than BreakUp Infinity. Go to the Winchester website, it has all the answers to your questions.

Thanks for the replies fellas, appreciate it. Probably pick it up next week. Be my first hunting semi, have several semi's that are just too pretty to hunt with. Been blasting away at em with a Nova for awhile, figured I'd see what all the hype on this SX3 was about..

Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun.

Was just at scheels in springfield IL on Saturday and they had Max 4 SX3s with 3 1/2 chamber for 899 on sale but you had to get the 26 inch barrel. If you wanted a 28 it was 1049.

just paid $949 for a new 3" camo with 28" barrel. normally, this shop is a "full blown retail and more" type of shop, but this one was priced decent.

Nice gun!!! When did they start making SX3's in Portugal? I have 2, and both of mine were made in Belgium. Hmm...
