SP-10. The weight is probably why. But I've never shot an original Gold 10. All of them are a pleasure to shoot especially when compared to a 3.5" 12Ga in a 7.5# gun

My fave is the Gold light 10, but as JWG said they all beat a 12 gauge 3.5.
Good Luck in the field-Mike.

My SP-10 weighs right at 10 ounces more than my Gold Light 10. I can tell no difference in "felt" recoil, but then I don't consider myself recoil sensitive. Least not until I shoot 3 1/2" in the 12ga, those I feel.

I agree with this. I can not tell the difference in felt recoil from the SP-10 or the Gold 10 Light when shooting steel or lead loads. They are both (IMO) very soft shooting guns.

I have all three and I cannot tell the diff in recoil between them. Recoil is not a concern. There is a recoi pad diff though. The SP10 has a poor recoil pad made my Goodyear Rubber Co. The Browning pads are much better. There is a Limbsaver prefit pad available for the synthetic stocked Gold 10. It is not listed as such but by ordering a pad for a 1400 Winchester you will have the correct pad.

I have never shot the gold 10, or sp 10, but i have shot the ithaca 10 gauge, and the browning gold light 10.. My extrema 2 kicks the same as my gold 10 light if i shoot heavy shells in it.The gold 10 light wont kick you at all in my expierence.

Couldn't tell a difference in recoil but I thought the Browning cycled quicker and smoother than the SP10.

Does any one actually notice recoil when shooting at a bird, I have bad shoulders and still never notice the kick of my SP10 when It goes off

Yes. A 3.5 inch 12 gauge magnum turkey load in a pump gun will rattle your fillings. Traded in that gun on another 10 gauge. Never bothered trying a 3.5 12 gauge autoloader so I don't know how much better that would be. With the gold10 I don't notice a kick. The recoil is more of a push against the shoulder.

The SP-10 has less felt recoil vs. the Browning Gold 10. I have both and like the camo on the Browning, but like shooting the SP-10. I purchased the Browning because it had that duro coat camo and was going to sell the SP-10. I like shooting the SP-10 way better, so I couldn't get rid of it. I have the 30" barrel with a Kicks Hi-flyer pass shooting choke in it. It flat thumps the honkers and snows. Good gun. Ran Hevi-Metal through it last year and it was a blast.

I have both light and regular Gold 10s plus the SP10, each with 30" barrels. Shooting patterns in the summer, wearing a Tshirt, I can tell no diff between all three guns in felt recoil. My goto gun is the Light Gold 10.

there is no real differrence on recoil felt...if all 3 fit you right... length of pull ect!!! the perceived recoil is so close to same you will not know the differrence even when shooting at paper for patterns in summer. been there done this for over 20 years with ithicas ,brownings, and remington semi auto's

I used to have a Ithaca 10 yrs ago. Basically the SP10 in a lot of ways. I had an SP10 also and THOUGHT it kicked pretty hard. Now since using a 3 1/2 Franchi I realize it only pushed a little. I went on a snow hunt this Feb. and after 4 1/2 bxes of3 1/2's I didnt want any more birds to fly into our spread. Had on a fairly heavy coat and shirt and still had black, yellow and green from my shoulder to half way down my arm. It turned to torture about 3 boxes in. I sure miss my 10's. If I ever get another I'll keep the sucker. Almost bought a 10 ga. sidexside a couple of yrs ago. That would have been a big mistake, I think. I have never shot the Browning but that will be my next waterfowl gun if I can find one I can afford. The Ithaca and Remington both had amazing power, I just didnt think I needed them then. Silly me.

I remembered a article about the reloading of 10 ga. shells. A writer in sports afield said he was dove hunting and the doves were at about 80 yards out. He loaded some 10 ga shells with no. 8 shot and took it next day. He said he didnt recommend it to many people but he shot doves at those distances with a 10 ga and no. 8 shot. They died with a suprised look on their faces. :lol3: I never tried it, but that would be fun just to see what kind of pattern it shoots when you find the components and start reloading for your gun.

I always wanted to do this just to get practice swinging my 10. Maybe someday.
I love my SP-10
