Found a great deal on a new stoeger m3000 28" Max4. Only problem is i mostly hunt geese and was looking to buy a 3.5in gun and retire my mossberg 500 that has never let me down. I'm looking to buy a kicks hf MOD choke and shoot my normal 3in Hevi Metal BB or kent fasteel when I'm broke. Does anyone think this is just as good as 3.5in?
With good velocity and good patterns at the ranges you plan on shooting birds, a 3" load will kill a bird just as dead as a 3 1/2" load with less recoil and faster follow up shots....

I hunt over decoys in cut corn. We land birds all the time but sometimes we end up in a feild where the geese circle but won't commit to the hole and we have to take 40 yard shots

First, you're simply going from a 3" pumpgun to a 3" S/A. The great news is you don't need a 3 1/2" chambered 12 ga. to do so as you've apparently had success with the Mossy. If you decide to go 3 1/2", the 10 gauge is the best route, expecially for geese.
Second, you've apparently been shooting the birds close(r) as the HeviMetal shotshells are basically spreader loads.
Before you spend ~$80USD on a HF tube, get a box of 3" in #1's and shoot a few patterns with your factory IC & MOD tubes. Most loads in #1 pellets will kill geese quite a bit farther than the HM BB's, plus be a better as a large duck load, to boot.
