Remington 11-48 ?

Postby coyote2 » Mon May 19, 2014 8:28 pm

Is it safe to shoot steel shot out of this gun? I would be using #2 and #4 shot. I know these are old guns but have heard several people say it is ok with the smaller shot sizes that I would be using. It was made in 1955 and has a modified fixed choke. Thanks in advance for any help.

I sent a email to Remington a while back about using steel shot in a 20 Ga. 11-48 with a full choke made in 1952 and this was their reply.

Thank you for visiting Remington Country! We certainly appreciate you taking the time to write in with your question.

You can shoot steel shot through any Remington barrel made since 1950. In a fixed full choke, you can shoot up to a size #2 pellet. Anything larger would not perform well out of a fixed full choke and could open up your muzzle over time.

Thanks Huntsprig. It is good to hear that, this old gun will be heading to the marsh with me this fall.
