Do the kent tungsten matrix shoot "cleaner" than the hevi-shot. I heard the hevi-shot leaves behind a nasty "goo", for lack of a better word, in the barrel. I guess its some kind of buffering matterial?
Yeah, that Hevi-Shot white powder can get into all kinds of stuff in the blind bag. There's often some in the box, although it doesn't appear to leak from the shells. They need it because the shot is so hard, and would damage your gun without it. I'm pretty good about cleaning the gun after every hunt, and I haven't really noticed any real excessive barrell fouling (although I'm only firing 1/3 of the number of rounds I would be shooting with steel).
Kent Impact is soft, so it doesn't need all the buffering. That's also why it can be used in fixed choke guns - even extra full. The lack of buffering certainly makes it cleaner to use and shoot. Plus, you're still using fewer rounds because there are very few, if any, cripples.
Density for comparison: Hevi-12, Lead-11, Kent Impact-10.6, Steel 7.86
