That style of safety appeared in 1909. It was replaced by the rear of the triggerguard safety in 1951. Would need the serial number to tell you year of manufacture for your gun.

Dove hunting Saturday 9/3/11 with my 16 gauge standard weight, Belgian Browning Auto 5. I have another barrel (the original) that is a 28" FULL CHOKE, this barrel with the Poly-Choke was given to me by a friend - I love the versatility of the multiple choke option.

First time poster..

Grew up shooting an A-5, now getting back to my roots. Bought this A-5 Magnum on GB, will get it out of jail this week. From what I can tell it's a 1961 gun. Has a 26" barrell with a Colonial Arms skeet tube.
I bought a A-5 rebuild kit from MGW (springs, friction rings,et al). Planning on a plain barrel snap on Hiviz sight. Also will buy a steel rated IC tube from Colonial Arms. It's a belgium barrell, but appears to have been cut and fitted with a choke tube. I figure if it goes bad I'll have to get a jap barrell, but hope it works as is.
The mag cap has a unthreaded hole where the sling attachment would go. Is the correct, or do I need to get on with a threaded hole? Never had a sling on an A-5, but appreciate a sling when in the marsh.

Love this site...Thx in advance for your comments and suggestions....Steve

I own a Light 20 (I think). I'm not sure what year it is. I printed off the Serial # Table from Browning and am going to ID this evening. I'll post pics of it later as well.

Just purchased a 1982 Jap A-5 Mag, 28" vent-rib with screw-in chokes ...very excited. Been looking for one for a long while that wasnt overly expensive. Going to add a Carlson's IC and some good Winchester #3s, and hopefully kill a few birds with it in a couple weeks.

I've been shooting mine since I was 16 and I'm 49 in 2 weeks. It was shiny, pretty and new like other pics that I see but just as I don't look like I did when I was 16, my gun has aged also. Originally it had 32" full choke but when we changed to steelshot I put a 26" on it. Also, the walnut forend wore out from the recoil, I replaced it with the synthetic because it was cheaper and won't wear out. Ducks don't mind !

I was at the trap club the other day and an older gentleman had what looked like a browning but the safty was sort of square and was inside the trigger guard.

That safty cut the heck out of his finger when the bolt closed and the round went off, sending pellets into the dirt in front of him.
Mercy .

Hello
I have 2 A5's not hunted them in a while but since my new gun broke i have nothing else to shoot what brand and velocity shells are safe for these guns i have heard that the hyper sonic shells cause the guns to break i don't want to break anything on these guns the one i would use is a Japanese barreled with chokes my hunting partner says to use Remington Nitro steel but i can't find any locally thanks.

I dont think you can break an A-5 ...I shoot Winchester Supreme #3s through mine, 28" full choke jap barrel. Works just fine.

Not so sure about that but i thing for sure is i don't want to break mine, recently i was at the local gun shop and a guy came in with an A5 he was shooting the remmington Hyper sonic shells in it and it broke the gun this got me to thinking are there tpes of shells that should not be used in this gun and the reason for my post.

Just added a Miroku 1991 made 12 gauge, 3" MAG Browning Auto-5 with Invector chokes to my collection - plan to make it my primary duck gun next season - it joins the 16 gauge shown above.
