Patternmaster Anaconda

Postby bkbuster3 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 2:59 pm

I got in a couple of the PM Anaconda chokes Monday and done some minor patterning with my SBE II and A-5. Only shot a couple of shell combo because of time. Anyways, shot some Fed. Ultra Shok 3" #3s at 30 yds and 40yds. the MID range ( .715) shoot 97% at 30 and 77-81% at 40. The 3.5" Win Supreme BB shot 83% at 40 yds. And just shot one shot at 15 yd for the heck of it, and it was about a 10" pattern. All I could say is WOW, primary because I figured the choke would be more open based on the constriction, and I was actually wanting a more open choke, but the patterns were very even and good. I guess they will be fine. Has anyone tried the short or long range? I was wanting to try a long for geese, but really think it would be a waste or way tighter than my shooting ability.

The long range is a 700 constriction, that would also be a great Goose choke! You should be good with the Mid, smaller shot tends to open faster, and big shot tends to pattern tighter!!

For something more open try the Code Black Upland. I use it for decoying geese out to 35 yards.
Good to hear feedback on the Anaconda!

Try your factory modified tube and post the percentages here. I would love to see the difference. I know what will happen but you need to know. Jeff

.700 is my general purpose constriction. For long range, I use .685. The .700 is equal to Light Full.

Got my PM Anaconda in full choke today for my Mossberg 835 and tested a few rounds. At 30 yards the entire payload was dispersed evenly over a 24" circle 119 hits of #1's from 1 1/4 ounce payload of Fiochi steel. No flyers noted outside the 24" ring, this should make a good pass shooting tube for me, will have to test some more at greater distance (out to 50 yards) and more payloads, but I am happy so far.

My modified choke that I use from that gun is a carlsons mid-range, that generally delivers the entire payload in the 30" circle at 30 yards. I did not count that one yet. Will be doing some more testing next week and will post results.

I took my SBE2 out to pattern the other day. My friend has an 870 Rem. I teased him relentlessly because his gun shoots so sloppy and my benelli can pound. 2 days later he got the anaconda and we patterned again. We are not the type to measure and count and be all serious because we worry about work and hunt for fun. All I can tell you is that his gun made a significant improvement. So much to the point that I am going to cabelas and gander mt. tomorrow to find the anaconda for my gun. If they dont have it i am ordering one when i get home. That choke is amazing!!!

Spent a few hours with my 835 and the Anaconda long range (.730) choke yesterday. At 40 yards with all loads the choke was consistent at about 90%. At 50 yards the choke performed at 80-85% depending on the load tested. Overall I am very happy with this choke and its performance as it performs better at 50 yards than my xtra (.717) full hasting choke which generally throws 75% at 50 yards.

Several different loads from Winchester, Fiochi and Estate shot sizes of 1, BB and BBB. Speeds from 1350 to 1550 and payloads from 1 1/8 ounce to 1 3/8 ounce. They all performed well with the slower loads giving the most consistent pattern density.

How many BBB's did it put in a 30 inch circle at 50 yards? Number, Not percentage. Jeff
