I am not sure of the type of hunting you will be doing(jump shooting, over decoys, pass shooting ect..) My advice would be to get the Mod. I think it would be a better fit for most waterfowl hunting situations. The IM may (or may not) be better for long range shooting. Buy one (or both) and head out and see how they pattern with the loads you will use in the field.
Good advice above. We don't know what type of hunting you do and the ranges you shoot. As a rule the IM will be for longer ranges but if you do most of your shooting 40 and under it would be to much.
I got the mod on my goldlite i get a 75% @ 40 shooting bbb its not a great % but it throws a fairly even pattern i've takin alot of birds at a distance with it but the problem i find is under 30yrd its real tight.I want to try the im and a buddy of mine is going to let me try his.In 2 weeks our early season opens so i'll be hittin the pattern board shootin from 30 to 60 yds to compare both chokes.
Neither! Just patterned my brileys and I have everyone they have. TNT, dove duster, duck , and goose getter. Which is ic, LM,m, im. By far at 40 yard patterns with hevi shot, black cloud, fed speed shok, Kent's fasteel , Kent's silver steel , and xperts 3 shots each from a Benelli. . The LM dove duster did the best with all of them. The briley mod and patternmaster code black did just okay. The LM smoked all of it with great patterns. So this is my results. I will be patterning the anaconda soon as well to check that for everyone.
You won't know until you try. What does or doesn't work for someone won't apply to your gun, its that simple.
Recommendations can get you in the ball park but every gun is different. I've got one gun that the factory mod out performs anything I've put in it, so like I said you never know.
Last weekend by chance I tried my SBE 2 with a Kicks Mod .012 constriction in my gun. That choke did throw a nice patten for each shell I tested at the distance that shell should be used. Example 130 pellets at 40 yds for Silver Steel 3.5 #2s
Here are a few of my pattern numbers to give you an idea of the differences you may see with these two constrictions. Of course, the only way to really know what they will do for you is to pattern your loads in your gun/chokes.
Pattern results from a 12ga Browning Citori with 28" Invector-plus barrels and Briley flush chokes (patterns average of five, 30" post-shot scribed circle, yardage taped muzzle to target, and in-shell pellet count average of five).
12 GA 2 3/4" REMINGTON SPORTSMAN HI-SPEED STEEL LOAD
1 1/8 OZ #4 STEEL (218 PELLETS) 1,375 FPS
40 YDS -- M / pattern 159 (73%)
40 YDS -- IM / pattern 165 (76%)
12 GA 2 3/4" WINCHESTER XPERT HI-VELOCITY STEEL LOAD
1 1/8 OZ #3 STEEL (162 PELLETS) 1,400 FPS
40 YDS -- M / pattern 106 (65%)
40 YDS -- IM / pattern 121 (75%)
12 GA 2 3/4" REMINGTON SPORTSMAN HI-SPEED STEEL LOAD
1 1/8 OZ #2 STEEL (139 PELLETS) 1,375 FPS
40 YDS -- M / pattern 114 (82%)
40 YDS -- IM / pattern 114 (82%)
Hope this helps.
