Gun Club w/ TUWSBL24 (LS2)

Postby gooseflopper » Thu Aug 29, 2013 7:39 pm

I started loading up some gun club hulls. Is the wad supposed to be very tight fitting into the hull? The wads went into the Federal hulls a lot easier. Using LS2 data.

Thanks!

The Gun Club/Rem and Win AA hulls are tapered, while the Cheddite and Fiocchi in the Lightning Steel manual are straight-walled. The TUWSBL wads are for straight-walled hulls, but will work in the Rems.

But, you'll notice that @ 1oz, in the Rem, you're not getting the performance as with the other hulls, because of the pressure and having to back off on the powder. You'll also notice that there are no AA recipes with that hull.

RSI/ Sam 1 wads are made for the tapered hulls and deliver lower pressures. You'll find velocity in those loads in the RSI manual for the AA hulls: 7/8 oz @ 1675 fps and the 1 oz load @ 1550 fps.

Some people have developed loads for the Rem hulls, but watch out!!,, because there are plenty of typos and just plain over-stuffed load recipes posted that can send gun parts back through your face.

Keep asking those questions! Check out the RSI manual/recipes as well. Google "hulls", or the specific hull and payload and wad, along with "duckhuntingchat.com" and you'll get many hits. I find it easier than searching the site. But then, perhaps I could learn several things 'bout using this site.

Good luck!!

The Lightning Steel 2 manual has both 7/8 and 1 oz loads for the Gun Club hull and like hulls. Ned S

The Lightning Steel load #2 the OP is asking about is a steel shot load.

Are you using the Claybuster cb1118-12 with steel shot

You can use the over size wads in the tapered hulls but..............

Don't ever try to take them apart, that wad usually bulges the hull a little and you normally will
cut or damage the hull or wad, trying to get the wad back out, with lead or steel loads.

Which post are you referring to??? The TUWSBL/Rem,, or the Claybuster??

Is that LS load doable with the TUWSBL then,, or is it a problem?

Since my last post, I tried putting the TUWSBL 24 into a Gun Club and a Cheddite. With both loads, I couldn't get more than 'bout 343 gr, instead of 383 gr of shot.

An elder on this site suggested I use a spent 30.30 shell, or some use a dowel, in the shot drop tube, to press the shot down in to make the full 7/8oz, 383gr of shot fit.
