Hevi-shot recipe (ched primer A-Steel powder)

Postby BBK » Mon Sep 30, 2013 7:54 pm

Anyone.. ANYONE.. have a recipe for hevi-shot in 12 gauge using a cheddite primer (or win 209) and steel powder? I have some old hevi-shot shells and they are duds. They lost all their buffer and don't have enough compression to shoot correctly anymore. So I'm just going to reload them. They were rem #2's but I dumped them out and separated the shot and got about half #4 and half #2 with two shells worth of #6. I have roughly 30 1 1/4 shells to reload.

So I plan to load the 4's and 6's for ducks and the 2's for geese or just shoot them at late season mallards to use them up if I don't get out for geese this year.

Looking for something around the 1 1/8 to 1 1/4oz range. 2.75 or 3" doesnt matter. Hull, wad, does not matter to me. I'll order what I need. More cost effective to order the components for a handful of shells than to buy new hevi-shot!

My preference would be a 2.75" 1 1/8 recipe using a rem or AA hull. Don't need crazy speed. 1300fps would be more than enough.

So someone, lay a recipe on me!

Thank you!!!!!

Too bad #21 had to have rsi wads! I hate ordering from them, always a hassle for me. I'll post a want add for a few of those wads.

I don't know who published that, but I'd like to know how the heck they got two 1/8 spacers in there! With one spacer the shot sits a little bit higher than the wad, with two it wouldn't even fit in the hull I bet. Or maybe it was for small hevi-shot? I'm loading 4's and 2's so that might be the cause, if the load was made for #7 or something.

I have had that "it won't fit" problem with shotgun shell reloading data quite often. Just leave the overshot spacer out.

It sure seems like there would be plenty of room in the SAM wad for 1-1/8 oz of 12g/cc shot with just one 1/8 felt or cork spacer.

Not with this ugly shaped shot there isnt. Maybe with a round non-tox. This stuff is terrible, which is why I'm loading it into duck loads. So much wasted space between the shot! Now I know why they were filled with 1/4oz of buffer.
