here are pics from each, they are both 3in 1 1/4 oz shot #3s. amazing difference in size consistency and roundness with the federals. I stopped shooting them several years ago after I had a few duds in a couple different boxes. I am switching back!

I think Black Cloud, Blind Side, and Xperts have shown that nice round uniform steel shot is not mandatory when it comes to killing ducks.

Having said that, I certainly prefer the nice round uniform steel shot in my own shells.

Here are some of my pattern numbers with those loads so you can see how they performed in my gun.

Pattern results from a 12-gauge 3" Remington 870 Special Purpose with a 28" barrel and factory flush Rem-chokes (pattern average of five, 30" post-shot scribed circle, yardage taped muzzle to target, in-shell pellet count average of five, and true choke constriction from bore gauge).

12 GA 3" FEDERAL SPEED-SHOK STEEL LOAD
1 1/4 oz #3 steel (186 pellets) @ 1,400 fps
40 YARDS
IC (.009" const.) / pattern 112 (60%)
Mod (.018" const.) / pattern 128 (69%)
Full (.037" const.) / pattern 141 (76%)

12 GA 3" WINCHESTER XPERT HI-VELOCITY STEEL LOAD
1 1/4 oz #3 steel (195 pellets) 1,400 fps
40 YARDS
IC (.009" const.) / pattern 109 (56%)
Mod (.018" const.) / pattern 131 (67%)
Full (.037" const.) / pattern 154 (79%)

Will the ducks know the difference? You can be the judge!

Good luck.

Hevi Shot is some of the ugliest shot known to mankind. Yet, it patterns superb.

That is the best looking xpert shell I have ever seen!

There was a thread on here last year that I started that had several different load cut open. Different guys contributed several different shells, including a couple xperts. Worth checking out if you are interested.

Why do I shoot 3.5" for geese? Because they don't make a 4" yet!

There are three factory 12ga loads that I put at the top of my list as most desireable, thus offering the best patterns. Of these, two are Kents and one is Win Xpert. I have often wondered if Federal bothers to pattern test their loads.
