How far?

How far does pellets fly? As in max distance. Say 3 inch #2 at 1450fps.

i was standing 325 yards from a barn.there was a slight breeze shooting at a woodie.that 2 shot rained on the roof of the barn.not sure if it would have done it on it's own or the breeze helped it.right angle, wind anything could happen.

Someone with the ballistics program handy will chime in and tell you. I'd say probably about 300 yards shot at the right angle with no wind or the wind behind the shot.

Journee's "rule of thumb". Shot diameter in inches times 2200 equals max distance in yards. So, .15x2200 = 330 yards. An approximation, to be sure, but it does get you into the ball park.

I think I remember BB steel at 1400-1500 fps can travel in excess of 380 yards when conditions are right.

YJ I can get you max distance as well as max distance to pierce skin but that software is on the old computer, to close to hitting the sack. I can look up all the loads you want in the morning, make a list. Here is a screen shot of a load I checked for someone a few weeks back

Buy it, use it, break it, fix it,
Trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it,
Charge it, point it, zoom it, press it,
Snap it, work it, quick - erase it,
Write it, cut it, paste it, save it,
Load it, check it, quick - rewrite it,
Plug it, play it, burn it

For steel #2 pellets, 32F, 1000 ft elevation at 1450 fps 3-ft velocity
From Lowry Shotshell Ballistics
For the front pellets in the shot string

Max range with no wind - 772 ft
Angle 23.9 degrees
Time of flight 6.5 sec
Because the flight time is so long a large tailwind or headwind can have a significant effect on the maximum distance.

Wow thanks for all the help and offers. I was in line with my thoughts then. I assure you the difference between shot size or angle is splitting hairs here. But that gives me an "general idea (which was what I was wanting)" ! :) thanks again.

Add about 25% if you are using TSS
