Rem STS sam1 wad data?

Postby BBK » Fri Oct 11, 2013 5:58 pm

Anyone have data for a 1oz or 7/8oz load using a rem sts type hull and sam 1 wad? Not looking for lightning fast, but I guess anything will work. Want to test out light payload vs heavy payload in a couple chokes.
Why do I shoot 3.5" for geese? Because they don't make a 4" yet!

I posted one from Lymabns5th in the thread about 1-1/8 oz loads in STS and top gun hulls.

There are no loads listed on Alliant site with the STS hull he asked for.

As stated, there are no STS loads on alliant for steel. Looked long before posting this thread.

BBK,
Just curious....Is there a reason you want to shoot a 1oz load of 2s when you can shoot a much better 1 1/8oz load using a diff hull at the same vels?

Not particularly, just doing some spear-menting. :lol3:

I loaded and hunted with the 1oz STS load for a couple seasons but have moved on to better loads from there.

Worse case I think they will make a very good preserve pheasant load. Light enough payload with big enough shot that the birds won't be swiss cheese at 20 yds, and yet plenty lethal on going away shots.

My results with that load. Note the powder...she is a tad hot use at own risk.

1oz #2s @ ~1475 fps worked very well for me on phez, this year, at closer ranges and a skeet choke. Great penetration and coverage; But that was 20-30 yds, after which, the pattern thinned and woulda been better with an IC choke.

And for close decoying, as well. I found that a 1oz of #3s in the Rem hull, moving @~ 1600 to be most effective, even at 30 yds, with an IC, or LM choke.

Sanch shoots a 15/16oz load; Larry shoots a 7/8 oz load, but not at Lightning speeds/velocities.

Some people's guns don't like certain size shot. Plus, it depends on which choke... the make and constriction and is it a flush mount choke, or an extended?

Having said that, I'll be shooting 10ga/Chris's HG load of #2s, as well this Winter.

Kenner,
I am anxious to hear your results this season with the HG load. I can tell you this...after having one season of use, last season, under my belt with the HG load, I have never felt so confident going into a season with a particular load. If a bird doesnt go down, I know it will be me and not my ammo. I am still amaized how easy to load it is and yet be so deadly.
