Factory Load suggestions out-of-range birds

Postby mudpack » Wed Aug 13, 2014 7:33 am

Hi guys, muddy here. Every time I go out duck hunting, I see a lot of birds that are 200 yards to even half-a-mile away. I want to shoot a factory load that gives me a good chance of knocking some of these birds down.
What are your suggestions for birds that are in the next county?

For 200 yard shots I suggest a tungsten slug through a rifled barrel, topped with an acog with a ballistic reticle.

I'll take a poll on opening day down here and get back to you on this. I am betting experts take the top spot. :)

At that distance, my .243

I was on this forum one time and learned that #8 shot works very good at the ranges you describe.

They are the ones making the Walk of Shame look easy , I'm sure they have some good advise to
give as factory Win Xperts , Hevi Metal , Hevi Steel 3 1/2 "hulls are all over the place they shoot from .

No , what you learned was , if you reloaded # 8's and shot it , picking up the shot and reloading it again , shooting it 7 more
times , you would still be far short in trajectory of hitting your target , as most are ! :lol3:

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a EMI Pro Staffer has confided that next month, they're coming out with a new product, Hevi Holy Moly!

It features state-of-the-art heat seeking technology, depleted uranium pellets and rock salt (to keep the meat from spoiling) layered at the bottom of the shotcup.

Each case will also include a complimentary GPS device, so you can find your way back to the blind.

Does the number of bands claimed simply mean you have an Ebay account?

We did find one method highly successful for Stratosphere Flying Snows, however it was a bit unorthodox... :lol3: :lol3:

Any of the saboted or rifled slugs should work.
Banded Birds - Mallard / Black Ducks, 3 Jack Miners and 25 AVISE. BW Teal - 2, Wood Ducks - 1, Morning Doves - 1, Snow/Ross - 2 (both reward bands), Canada Geese - 12 (2 neck collars)
