Repairing old cork decoys, Phase 1

Postby MassDecoyCarver » Fri Dec 28, 2012 8:29 am

These are 3 very old LL Bean Coastal Black ducks that I received from my Dad's old hunting partner.
As you can see they had a rough life, no paint left, chipped heads and bills, lots of cork damage.
These images show the beginning of the transformation to new - useable decoys.

I filled the bodies and the missing head parts with wood workers bondo, then sanded smooth. The tail boards were badly delaminated, so they were glued with TiteBond III and clamped.

Next week I'll post some pictures of the flocked bodies and heads, and then the paint process will begin.

Very interested in following along! I would like to start carving a few of my own, starting with foam.

I can't wait to see the finished product. I have three as well that I got for my 16th birthday back in 1981. Mine are still huntable but for some reason sit in my basement. I guess the plastic won out unfortunately. Show us the results.
