Re-do of herters photo mallards

Postby loon » Thu Aug 01, 2013 7:25 am

A friend is giving me a dozen herters photo image mallards that were damaged with gasoline causing some of the foam to melt and crack. My plan was to burlap them using The tile mastic process seen on this site. I was going to make them into divers maybe even put E Allen heads on seeing I'm getting the decoys for free. Will the burlapped mastic process fill-in those cracks? Should I caulk them prior to using the burlap? Or squirt some of the expandable foam in and trim it and then seal with burlap and mastic? Lastly I have no experience with herters is it easy to change the heads to E Allen ? Thanks guys

You could use the expandable foam. But I think a lot of the guys use bondo to do their foam repairs. Then burlap them. Or you could always just send them my way and you wouldn't have to mess with either process. Kidding, hope they turn out great post pictures when you're done.

fill the voids with bondo, then burlap.

Would have LOVED to see some pictures of the process, but the end result says it all, nice work!
