Not first hand. But in 2011 I hunted a public marsh here with a buddy of mine. We showed up for an afternoon hunt and there was one other boat out. We set up far away from him, but still in eyesight of him and the refuge. Every darn duck that came out of that refuge (gadwall, mallard, and ringneck) wanted right into their hole. The second that rapid flyer turned on (was on delayed timer) they would flare straight up in the air and out of there. Then they would work their way around and give us a few swings. We limited out in a couple hours, they never shot their guns... just flared every bird in the marsh.
The wings were SUPER shiny, I could see a glare off them from 300 yards away with the noon sun. And the motion was just not natural at all, like I said.. flared them all. The ducks were committed to that spot, locked and dropping, and then would flare straight up in the air like they were being shot at the split second that thing turned on.
We were using a regular lucky duck and a roto duck 2000 or something like that, whatever my buddy has. All the bird we shot were ones they flared.
