ultimate decoy test

Postby LiquidA45 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 12:23 pm

With all the post over what the best decoy is I decided to try and actually run some tests. My plan is to try and get mallard hen and drake from as many top manufacturers as possible (Dakota, GHG, G&h, Higdon, etc...) and use them all equally over the season to see how they look in the end. The will all be Texas rigged and transported in mesh decoy bags. I predict I will hunt close to 30 days this year and see a variety of conditions. I plan on taking pictures of the spread from specific distances to see if you can pick out certain decoys and I will take pictures after season to asses remaining paint and durability. Hopefully it will yield some informative results and help people with decoy selection. At the very least it will be some what entertaining. The trick will be acquiring the decoys with out having to buy entire sets. So if anyone wants to sell me a drake and hen shoot me a pm. Also feel free to add a brand to the list if interested.

Are you going to be using foam filled options from the manufacturers that offer them?

higdon foam filled is on my list, I'll just have to see what I can get ahold of as I don't have the money to buy a six pack of multiple brand. I have contacted some mfgs about single decoy purchases and was hoping to pick up some from people on here.

I think the Dakotas, higdons, pro grades, and avians will be the most challenging to get

I think it would only be fair to compare the top of the line from competitors.
