Decoy Spread for Rice Fields?

Postby Greenhead_Wrecker » Sun Nov 03, 2013 2:43 pm

I am part of a club and my blind is a pit blind on a check and am new to hunting flooded rice. What kind of spread should I use? I have 2 dozen dakota mallards, a dozen dakota pintail, a mixed dozen of teal and widgeon, and about 3 dozen blue collar full body decoys. Last year we weren't really prepared and used the year more as a trial run. We shot mostly sprig, but shot mallards, teal and widgeon as well and birds typically came in from the north. So what would be the most efficient spread?

I don't focus on a variety of species. We run mallards and a few pintails. If anything try running more floaters. Bill Byers' Hunter Club est. 1953

Assuming you are serious, put all the floaters downwind, about 20-30 yards out. Hide well. Shoot straight.
These are ducks we're talking about, not Navy Seals.

Next question.....?
Often wrong, never in doubt...
