Decoy line?

Postby holtspur » Tue Feb 04, 2014 1:49 pm

What line do y'all use on decoys, specifically texas rig. I've been using a pvc line and had it break on several decoys this season; most of it on its 2nd season or 3rd at most. I had a few wrapped with the bungee/hook weights, some texas rigged. I'd like to use texas rig most but will re-use what hook weights I have left.

SNL corp sells a great kit for Texas rigging.

They are 4ft mono lines and crimps. I also got swivels and rigged mine with a loop on one end, weight on the other, making sure that the line slides through the swivel. keep the weight stationary.

I run 400# mono bought in bulk from SNL and cut your own length, buy the crimps from them also. I pour my own 6/8 oz no roll fishing weights, Catfish guys use these on their river setups because the line still slides.

Did you make your own mold for those weights?

Yes, I bought a mold and melted down my strap weights. I bought one of the ladels they sell and used my camping stove to heat up the lead in the ladle. Think the mold runs about $35.

I cant remember the exact site but it was off a catfishing gear website. It's a do it right mold, with 1-6 oz and 1-8oz mold. Works really well.
