Hey guys this may seem like a stupid question but i was wondering just how far ducks in general can see or respond to decoys? I have shot several ducks over the years but i never have hunted large bodies of water until the past three years. Usually i hunt in rivers and pot holes with no more than a dozen decoys for woodies. I have recently purchased 4 dozen teal decoys. During my scouting I have seen several good groups of teal. some where further away and higher than the others and i was wondering how far they can see them. If anyone has some advise I'd appreciate it.
(IMO) When hunting big open water using some magnum size decoys along with some standard's in your spreed helps be seen by high flyers. Movement in the spreed does wonders also.
I have a MOJO Drake. Will that provide enough motion? I am trying to build my confidence in this type hunting. I am used to knowing exactly which little spot they are coming to and being there. Relieng on the decoys to attract from far away is not natural to me. 9 days till early Teal I guess I'll find out then.
Paint a couple of your mag sized decoys all black. They can be seen from a long, long way out. Add a couple of divers with a lot of black and white on them on the edge of your puddler set (unless it ruins the natural look of your spread). Also, adding a couple of goose decoys helps to get noticed from a distance.
i was always bitched at to cover my face cause if you can see the ducks the ducks can see you adn the stuff around you so dont move or shine my bright face but i guess the old man was right cause yea i stoped moving and they started comming over haha
next time you go off in boat to fetch a cripple etc.look back at blind have a buddy looking back at ya and notice even just the face exposed in blind window can be seen from long way off and if you can see they can see better from altitude.
