Buying First Field Decoys

Postby 60's hunter » Sat Jun 21, 2014 2:55 pm

I'm looking to get my first mallard field decoys. Any thought between these two ?
Avian X with no motion control band and a straight stake.
Hard Core with a motion control band and a surface circular base. Thanks.

Can't say about the actual decoy, but if you live where the ground freezes hard, and all you've got are stakes, you're done.... unless you want to take a heavy duty drill to bore holes for the stakes.
Doesn't that sound like fun?

I hear ya, never thought of that. Like last season when it really froze up hard and all the ducks were headin to the crop fields.
The ground was rock hard.

The new GHG ProGrade Full Bodies are pretty sweet. Not perfect, but better than most.

The new ones are small on stakes. Have you looked into higdons? Buy 1-2 Dzn full body's and 1-2 Dzn shells to match. Late season only use full bodys

Only when compared with the old oversized GHG FB's, which looked like grossly over-inflated footballs.
The new ones are life-sized.

And...at only twice the price, three times the weight, and four times the bulk.
