Installing Wood Duck Boxes in Mobile Delta

Postby Tensaw » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:50 pm

Two years ago I helped a group install and refurbish wood duck boxes. This happened in February or March IIRC. Has anyone heard of such an effort this year. The woodies have got flat busted up this year and deserve a little love.

Just a little bump on this. Contacted the Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Assoc. by email and received the following reply 17 minutes later:

Still on for the 19th. 10+ foot A frame ladder and sockets would be great.
A can of wasp spray is good to have on the boat.
Bring a friend and spread the word.
We can use all the help we can get.

Considering how we all have shot the crap outta woodies this year, I think a morning hanging boxes in the delta isn't too much to ask.

7:30 - 12:30 at Hubbard's Landing, Feb. 19th. Last time I did this, I got a T-shirt and lunch out of the deal to boot. Hope to see you there.

If none of the family are sick, I plan on being there.

Well, yesterday went well. I ended up paired with a biologist(s) which was cool. Note to self: 14 foot ladder is better than a 12; a pole saw comes in handy; and watch out for squirrels that launch out of old boxes and into your face.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it. Two of our kids had birthday parties at 11 am at different places, so I had one and the wife had the other. Hopefully next year I'll be able to make it. I was really looking forward to going this year.

Just thought I would throw this back to the top. Be advised - THE FOREGOING DATES WERE FOR 2011!! I'm going to check around an post the 2012 dates, if I can find something. Ya'll be thinking about getting in on this. If you are busting wood ducks, this is a really good way to make sure you can keep doing that. It's just a morning, and you are in the delta. I've done this twice and have always gotten paired with good folks.
