MS Delta Ducks - Duck Report #5

Postby MSDeltaDucks » Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:18 am

Mississippi duck hunting days remained warm for the third week of the season. The number of groups hunting was down, but the quality of the Delta duck hunts was good for most of the groups who ventured out. The Middle Georgia Quack Smackers had several solid hunts in the Bear Creek Bottom area bagging mallards, gadwall and woodies. The Waterfowl Widowmakers experienced a fast and furious hunt on Saturday with their species limit of woodies (at 12) in 10 minutes and then finished off the daily bag with a mallard and 3 gadwall. Garrett said that they couldn't keep shells in their guns. Outlying brakes are the preference of the Ole Miss Football Group, and they got a Burrell Bayou hole christened for the season on Saturday and Sunday bagging a variety of species (gadwall, mallards, northern shovelers, teal and wood ducks). The cold weather this week is a welcome addition to go along with the rainfall from last week. Still hoping for an early duck migration in 2012. To date the duck hunting in Mississippi for our groups has resulted in a species breakdown in the bag of 12% gadwall, 7% mallards, 42% northern shovelers, 1% redheads, 4% scaup, 3% specks, 25% teal, 3% wood ducks and 3% other. The ducks taken at this point in the season exceeds the 10-11 to-date total of 939 and 11-12 to-date total of 1,188.

The third week's duck harvest was 314, bringing the total number of ducks harvested this season to 1,201.
