kachemak Bay Report

Postby Beluga » Mon Oct 17, 2005 10:26 am

My dad and I hunted the head of kachemak bay Saturday and Sunday. We took a boat up one of the rivers and spent the night, and came out on the high tide the next day. Not a lot of birds in the potholes we hunted up high by the trees. We got a few, including a shoveler. Best shooting was the jump shooting when we first arrived, and there was a flurry of activity right at shooting light. Heard a few geese but didn't see any. At least a dozen tundra swans flying around. Very chilly in the morning, we had to break a 1/4" of ice to free up the decoys in the morning. I don't know if we'll be able to go back if the weather stays cool. We also saw a brown bear and two cubs out on the flats, probabaly came within 500 yds of the blind.
