Seen any birds in Southcentral??

Postby akbrett » Thu Nov 03, 2005 4:17 pm

Has anyone seen any birds in Southcentral Alaska this last week? I saw a lot of birds last weekend, but have not seen a single bird here around town, out on the coastal refuge, or just S. of town since Tuesday. I have the sinking feeling I'm done for the year.

I have been checking Homer over the last couple weeks there haven't been many mallards sighted in mud bay (which is at the base of the Homer Spit) Last year there were 1000-3000 puddle ducks overwintering in mud bay and up the beach, but it doesn't look like there'll be more than a couple hundered this year. Makes me think that maybe duck numbers are a little lower. I think it's definitly cold enough for them to moved in! They might still come in between now and Christmas. Darn ducks are smart though, they like mud bay cause it's inside city limits and there is no way to hunt them! :pissed:
