Getting ready for fishing season, getting all my bear, bou and moose hunts lined up. Last full year up here so better make the most of it. I hope to be able to put something on the wall from here. That's all i'm up too.

Sorry to hear this will be your last full year in Alaska  I'm waiting until early winter to get my caribou, when they are closer to Nome but before the snow is all gone. I had no luck hunting moose this winter, but it is all right being I went by myself and they are a bitch to clean alone. Good luck with your hunts.

So how does one winter crab in Nome?

I imagine cutting a hole in the ice? Could be interresting and fun!

We used to drive the ski doo alpine out on the ice pac and look around where the locals had been crabbing and cut a nice 8 x 8 hole in the ice. I would lower my home made crab pot in the hole after baiting it of course.then tie off rope to a stick froze into the slush pile and let set a few tides or day and check if lucky you would have a few crab some time many. I lived in Nome in the 1980,s and we had caught so many that the whole rear entry way was filled with king crab some being quite large . We would invite the local pretty girls and eat crab till it came out our ears and drink oly beer by the case . After being quit full drunk would end up on the water bed for some of Nomes game of hide the one eyed pengin . We where a drill rig crew and it was said that in the spring a year later there would be a lot of babies resulting from eating crab drinking and so on great fun till child support hunts the players down
