At that time I had a small lab, she would retrieve anything but I do remember one crane pecking at her, a load of 6's stopped that. They seem to die pretty easy though, that is the only one I recall that was not DOA, and since then have shot a load of them in Sask. They are neat birds and good eating at least when fresh, marinated, and eaten half raw :beer:

Muktuk Bill, don't know where you are at but yesterday was my first birds, we have ice out the whazoo. Not many birds around, don't know if they jumped over us or what but this early season has been different. :beer:

nw ak. Went out yesterday on the 6th saw big lines of cranes. 3 swans. going tomorrow. Hopefully see geese this time. All we did yesterday was gussy up the blinds. :beer:
