legal land

Postby publius » Wed Jun 19, 2013 6:01 pm

This question is not limited to duck hunting. I may be moving to the Anchorage area soon. The way I understand it, it is legal to hunt any land that isn't fenced? Excluding residential areas of near anyone's house, of course. Is this correct?

Negative, you will be hard pressed to find a fence in this state, unless it is somebody's yard. Been here since '85 and can only recall seeing a few. We have tons of "Public" land but very little is posted/marked so between vast areas that are Parks, where you cannot hunt, and private or native lands where one needs permission it is incumbent on the person to know where they are at all times. Every year you read of hunters being 100 or 200 yards over a boundry and getting in trouble with the law.

Get the regs and visit the F&G people to get you started.

Sounds like it's pretty easy to mess up? Private land isn't fenced or posted, and got to watch outn for non-hunting government and Eskimo land. Hope I don't mess up, I grew up in MS. and LA. where it is mostly private land and you know where you are supposed to be.
