Waterfowl Hunting in Arizona

Postby gonewinchester1500 » Fri Feb 08, 2013 9:28 pm

Hello everyone,

I am going to be moving to Arizona after my time in the Marine Corps and was wondering how the duck and goose hunting is in the state? I grew up in Ohio where the ducks and geese are plentiful. Any info would be great.

Thanks everyone

Really depends on where exactly you'll be moving to. I hate it here but if I was sationed in Luke i'd be a little better.

I'm originally from Northern Minnesota, hunted at a duck club on the Mississippi River, and also hunted Manitoba. We had about 45 days of what I considered to be very good duck hunting. Moved to Airzona 20 years ago. Not as many ducks here but not as much water either so the birds are more concentrated. Alot less duck hunters and alot longer season in AZ. You'll probably put alot more miles on your truck. Personally, what I like about AZ compared to MN, longer season, fewer hunters, full feathered birds.

It's mostly public land hunting. I think there is some private land opportunities but I've always hunted public land.

Lots of good public land, think like a million arces just opened up too. Mostly mallards but here you really get all sorts. We pull birds the the central and pacific flyways. Good cinnys up around the phx area, good number of widgeons and geese are here you just have to find them which I have not.

I like a good variety. As long as there are some pintails around I'm okay. I'm still trying to nail one of them

Yep, you are getting the hang of it. Arizona Game and Fish has waterfowl hunting habitats listed on its website. Their list is actually pretty complete.

Haha, I just saw this thread. You might do what I'm starting to do, go home for duck season......There are a few ducks but nothing compared to Ohio or Il where I;m from. It's pretty much a joke here after growing up hunting the mississippi flyway most of my life. Last year I did squeeeze out 96 ducks but that was hunting every day and in a different spot every time it seems. I just bought a toy hauler so I;d have a place to live when I go back to ND, Iowa, Il, Mo, Ark and LA this season to hunt. Good luck.
