Off Season Stuff

Postby garthfishandhunt » Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:12 pm

For me duck season is 12 months long. There is only shooting dates and non shooting dates. Had to go to Flagstaff today and saw probably 3-5 thousand ducks and geese on Upper and Lower Lake Mary. Just warms my heart. Attached is a really bad photo with my cell phone (left my real camera at home) representing maybe 5% of the birds on the lakes. Mormon Lake even held a few hundred birds. Also last weekend I picked up off Craigslist List 4 dozen mallard and pintail decoys with strings and weights all bagged up and ready to go. Anybody else got anything going on?

I've never fished in Arizona since moving to Kingman in 1996. I normally only fish walleyes during annual summer visits back to Minnesota. But, since moving to Tonto Basin last summer I'm thinking I need to start fishing Rosie and Apache. I had my fishing gear shipped down here and I'm looking for a boat.

This offseason my plans are to build a 2nd duckboat. The duckboat I have now is a wonderfull boat, 17' x 72", fold up blind, 35hp electric start, floor, custom compartments, etc. But it is a pretty large boat that requires big water. Since moving from Kingman to Tonto Basin last summer I decided I'd like to hunt some of the smalller lakes on the Rim early in the season. I believe that will require a much smaller boat. The only item I possess right now towards this project is a 15ft Grumman Sportboat, but will need everything else, trailer, motor, lind, etc. I'll keep you posted on progress.

Sorry LA, but i believe I'll be keeping both boats for the time being. By big boat is very comforable for hunting 3 guys out on Rosie and almost every year I have family or friends that visit from out of state that want to hunt. So there are times when I need both boats.

Thats cool, just trying to get you some extra building money  . I'm looking for a shell that size to start building my own fishing/duck hunting boat.
