First diver hunt ,,,Simply great

Postby Kenny » Tue Oct 18, 2005 4:28 pm

Man we had a blast today, my first diver hunt .and I am hooked. We set up at day break not knowing what the heck we were doing with four dozen decoys I borrowed two dozen blue bills one dozen Cans and dozen red heads. I set the blue bills in two long lines tapered together at one end. The set the Cans out side them, and the red heads inside.
Any way I though maybe the hunt would be a bust as we had not fired a shot by 9:30 am then they started coming. We had ducks buzzing all around us. Some landed but they seemed to be short of the decoys. I have to adjust the boat placement next time
The shooting was fast and furious for 45 mins and we had four red heads three blue bills.
My dog was going crazy .. we stayed till 11:30 and got one more blue bill and a black duck.
I have hunt puddle ducks a lot and had some great shoo   ts but this was best fun I have had in a while.
Thanks for all the info and pointers I have received on here,, it helped a lot
Going again Sat
In my life I have spent most of my money on dogs ,decoys and shotguns. The rest of it I wasted

I don't say say what I know on the internet, you never know who is lurking I like people to do their own scouting, but I will say I have shot bluebills and redheads this year and the season opened Oct. 15

Yeah there were some guys on my state boards that decided to shoot off sometime ago, went from 6 layout rigs in a 5 mile area all of which I knew to 23 on one day and 26 on the next day!Totally ridiculous!
