Another succesful diver hunt

Postby duckhunter6 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 12:09 pm

2nd weekend of duck season we went out on the Saginaw Bay once again. Had 9 guys shooting. 3 d/f boats though. We set up trot lines and shot a total of 22 divers. It definantly wasnt the best hunt but overall we had plenty of shooting and opertunities.

thats cool, where do you live? what kinds of divers do you guys shoot usually? around here, we shoot up the surf and white winged scoter, bufflehead, and bluebills. once in a while we will get some goldeneyes and oldsqwal.

My father and I were hunting near north Island in wildfowl bay and had very little luck this past weekend - opening weekend was great!! How many lines do you put out?

Usually we put out anywhere from 3 to 5 lines. Some advice is to set up ur lines with one longer then the others this will funnel the ducks into ur decoys. it looks like this.

if you soat them in water with a little vinegar, you will draw out a lot of the nasty taste. then marinade em in a foodsaver marinader with jack daniels (or whatever) and boy it turns out good  we might shoot a couple mergansers the whole season on accident, but thats the way we cook most of ours and it turns out nice
