Old Squaw Duck Calls

Postby captainbarry » Thu Dec 08, 2005 11:14 am

Hi, I'm trying to find an Old Squaw Duck Call as I hunt for them on the Niagara River and Lake Ontario in NY. We have a good population of birds (4-5,000) that winter here. They are a very vocal bird, much more vocal than any Mallard and I want to call them. They have a loud constant up & down pitch call that is hard to discribe, If you have heard one you know what I mean. I have tried mouth calling them but after a minute or two, your to hoarse and your throats sore. If know of anyone who makes one or can custom make one please let me know asap.
Thanks, barrys@buffnet.net

I know exactly the sound you are talking about. I have never heard of an oldsquaw call. If there is one out there I would be interested as well.

I bought 3 of the calls, they sound alright, not great but seem to do the trick whebn the birds are passing us instead on coming to the deeks.

Thousands on the boat.
Hundreds on decoys.
Time away from the wife....priceless
