im thinking of getting a new shotgun before next season because i want one that is going to be able to stand up against saltwater a little better. i was thinking of going with the Benelli Nova, but a friend of mine suggested that i look at the Charles Daly 12ga. auto. ive seen this gun at Walmart and was wondering if it woud be a good gun for this kind of use.

The Charles Daly isn't a bad gun for the money. I am an outfitter on the coast of Maine and use one daily. Just remember semi's can be finiky, extreme cold, have to be kept clean, and not so perfect brass on shells can be a problem. Also consider this the pump is the waterfowlers work horse. But again the daly isn't a bad gun for the price.

WOW! DO NOT GO WITH A CHARLES DALEY!

I have only heard of 1 satisfied customer the rest say the gun sucks.

Either get a Remington 870 or a Spartan SPR 453.

Have you ever owned or shot a Charles Daly? I hae dropped mine in the water, mud, and not babied it and it works fine. Plus they have a lifetime warranty.

oops i undid the quote.

The Benelli Nova is a tank. I used one for three seasons and was shocked at the misery that gun survived. I fell into a clay lined ditch trying to retrieve a goose a friend's dog refused to get (long story) and landed on my right hand and pressed the Nova into the muddy bank. It was caked to say the least. I just flushed muddy pond water through it until the barrel was clear and bolt would move and got back at it. It was fine in terms of appearance after a proper cleaning.

While I switched to a gas auto when money made this possible I still have fond feelings about the Nova. Its easy to switch to goose loads quickly too.
