Ringnecks

Postby waterfowler646 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 3:31 pm

I hunt in an area where there are quite a few ringnecks, i can get them to circle all day long but they are very hesitant to come in. I use about 2 and a half dozens ringnecks and bluebills mixed. Any suggestions on decoy patterns or calling?

I like two smaller groups of decoys to my left in right just randomly placed. As to calling, lay off the mallard call, at most I make a brrr noise with my throat.

I use a dozen ring neck decoys. I place a group of about 6-8 in the middle, then a couple of pairs around the edges. I also use a diver call. I have decoyed singles and flocks of twenty with that spread. I don't know if I'm lucky or if theres something to that.

This time of years I like to use lots of coot decoys and just a couple of drake ringneck decoys.....works well with singles and pairs of ringnecks which is more of what we tend to see where we hunt.

I have had 50-70 ringers in my pond at school for about a month and they dont make one big group there are little groups of 3-6 and sometimes they are solo like 10' from the group I replicated what I saw. and it works I had them all cupped coming in when I shot

I hunt the same lakes you do. I've haven't had a ringneck circle all year. One pass, swing downwind, then feet down. I use 3-7 dozen decoys with a real duck decoy. Everything from singles to groups of 25-30. Same pattern I stated earlier.
