Atlantic flyway divers?

Postby ohioboy » Fri Dec 28, 2012 11:23 am

Hunted the Potomac River in Maryland the last couple of days and have seen nothing much at all. They have to be here soon with all the snow and ice north of us, so how far up are they?

Great visibility day and saw 5 mergansers today-that's it.

We still have quite a few GE's and Buffies along with Common Mergs, I can't imagine they'd be sticking around very much longer with all the snow and crap we just got.

Here in Jersey there's a ton of buffies that seemed to have moved in recently, I have been seeing a lot more broadies this week but have been hearing guys seeing the same raft of them for a month now just hanging out. A lot of black ducks like usual, more mallards around and I have been seeing em while diver hunting due to the small ponds icing over. Good luck

Over the weekend after Christmas I was at the central NC coast hunting divers on Friday afternoon and private impoundments on Saturday. Even though Friday was a bluebird day with no clouds and very light winds we saw thousands of divers rafted and trading in the sound and just out from the mouths of creeks. Hunting sucked that particular afternoon due to the conditions but the birds were definitely there. We saw bluebills, ruddy ducks, buffleheads and some larger birds that may have been canvasbacks or redheads (too far away to positively ID them).
