New to diver hunting!

Postby OneLunG » Wed Oct 11, 2006 8:07 am

Alright - So I'm new to diver hunting, and really intrigued with it.

Around here in SE Alaska we get A LOT of sea ducks/divers.

I've never really hunted for them - Mostly gone for the puddlers.

What I have for a boat is a 16' Sea Ark Prop Tunnel with a 60jet on it.

What would be the best method for hunting from this?

Suggested decoys? numbers? and rig?

Around here I see mostly Scoters, Goldeneyes, Oldsquaws, Harlequins, and the occasional can..

Thanks for any advice!

Yeah - I saw all those buffs out there this morning as well - Think I saw my first can out on the wetlands - would have shot it but some person walking their dog was on the other side of the bird - could have peppered them.

I'm just waiting for my 3 dozen decoys to show up. In the meantime me and my buddy are painting up some old decoys for diver hunting - Hopefully we'll be able to get out in the next week or so!
