Or should i use my 1/2 doz gaddies and 1/2 doz black ducks? This is my first year beginning to hunt without my dad and uncle and everybody (there very demanding) lol.
There isn't a set number of decoys you need. It all depends on the situation, and where you hunt. I have hunted over hundreds, and at the same times killed limits over one (or in a couple of cases no decoys at all ) when hunting over a spot I knew they were coming to. My best advice would be match what you see. If you are hunting a big water spot you saw 500 divers sitting in, you might want to use every decoy you've got. If you are hunting a beaver pond that is holding 15 green heads and some wood ducks, it doesn't make sense to fill the place up with divers decoys when a few puddlers would do the trick. A little common sense in duck hunting goes a long way.
