Painting mallard into Drake Canvasback

Postby clymerfowler » Thu Mar 27, 2014 12:09 pm

I have a old mallard decoys that doesn't have the right body for a BB and i want to paint it into a canvasback. We don't get cans around very much put i like diversity and visibility. does anyone have any tips of pictures of mallards painted into drake canvasbacks?

I painted up a bunch of blue bills this season and we killed a few canvasbacks over those in 2 days of hunting in Arkansas. If you havent found anything just google it something will come up.

I painted two old flambeau hen mallards into drake buffleheads this year. Killed 11 or 12 buffkeheads over them and my first drake redhead. They all tried to sit down with the painted buffies. Worked well. Divers dont seem to be real smart and i think the color goes a lot farther than the shape of the decoy. Ive seen a bunch of guys on here repaint mallards into BB and say they worked.

with divers I believe in quantity more than quality, also not all ducks look the same, different species and sexes.
