Info needed on the AR. river

I plan to hunt the river some, but have never been on it before. Is it the same size roughly as the Tenn. river? Can you hunt it safely with a 15' jon boat? Thanks! :salude:

Go to www.agfc.com and download the waterfowl guidebook. It talks about the Arkansas River in there, I believe it makes boat size recommendations too. That river can be rough at times.

Whereabouts are you going to be hunting? The Arkansas River spans the entire width of the state.

Here in west central Arkansas where I hunt the river is pretty good sized. I run a 17 foot boat now, but did hunt and fish the river in a 14 footer for a couple of years. It got a little hairy now and then, but I probably shouldn't have been out there in the first place. I can post up some pictures of the river around Fort Smith if you would like.

I'm not familiar with the TN River. How wide is it?

I'm not certain what area yet. My guess is from somewhere close to Stuttgart down to Dumas area. I believe the Tenn river and Ar are close in width. Certainly smaller than the MS river.

Definitely much small than the MS. I'm not familiar with that part of the river down there.

The arkansas river gets bigger the closer you go towards the mississippi river. Noticeably bigger than it is around fort smith. It is pretty wide around little rock.

I agree, but it's nothing like the MS except for where it dumps into the MS.
