The preliminary 2006 Waterfowl Breeding Ground population and habitat survey conducted by the u.s. F&WS established the population to more than 36 Million a 14% increase from last year and 9% above the 1955-2005 average. Mallards was 7.3 Million Birds from 6.8 Million last year. Blue- wingers was 5.9 million 28% increase from last years 4.6 million and 30% above long term average. green wingers at 2.6 million which is 20% greater than last year. 2.8 million gadwall which is 30% above last years. 916,00 redhead's increased 55% from last year. canvasbacks number 961,000. 3.4 million pintails, 2.2 american wigeon.
