When the water is frozen over, how big of a hole do y'all break out for the ducks to land in? Last couple of times we haven't had any ducks really light, and are wondering if its because the hole we make is too small.

I hunt Wisconsin and North Dakota. It depends on how many deeks your putting out. Don't fill the hole with deeks. 1~2 dz then make sure the hole is about the size of two cars, keeping your deeks as close to you as possible leaving a hole out front for a landing zone. Bigger is always better! Slide the huge sheets that you break off under the ice that your not breaking. Minimize the small ice chucks.. ducks that keep the ice open don't have ice floating in the hole. Hope that helps.
