OK - something has happened. Lot's of Mallards. I spent the afternoon watching tornadoes of ducks coming down in dry fields. They were just landing, walking & eating. Three different fields (that I was watching) with thousands of ducks on them. Another place with open water was just stuffed - not even going to guess how many. It was like black birds flying everywhere. Ice is about 2 inches thick. So good to see so many ducks - no doubt new ducks have arrived.
Yes, AR Dave i kill gadwalls, some days if i don't kill gadwalls i won't kill any ducks at all.
I kill about 50 % mallards, about 40% gadwalls ( average year).I hunt public, so I take what I can get, and I am thankful.
I'm on the west side of the state, so I hunt Oklahoma also. Scouted yesterday after the hunt, and found some mallards. They came in this morning in pairs, so found it hard to lay of the hens. The only group of four, had three hens.We will work harder on the green tomorrow.
I think we have new Ducks in the area also, going to stay after them while there here. They don't seem to hang around here very long.
Cannon, hope you're water situation worked out!
Give us an update sometime.
Campground is the best place to hunt!
