Looking good, chief.

"Excited." Yeah, that's exactly what i was thinking. Roughest season I can remember. I'm excited, alright, but it ain't about the ice. Clock's ticking.

With still a week left in the season I made the executive decision to come back early. After being out for a little over 2 weeks it was time to come home.

This season was an particularly odd one in terms of weather....we lost a total of 9 days to ice...thick ice ..

This season was filled with milestones at the club... Tobie hit 1, 000 retrieves in his short career Image

Roux hit the 4,000 mark Image

Ace made his final retrieve just a few days ago ...I can't remember the exact number but i know it's 8,000+ Image

This has been the season of the hybrid as well...we've killed :

Mallard x black
Silver mallard
Blue phase Ross
Snow x Speck

Thus far we've picked up 6 bands...3 goose bands, 3 duck bands.
2 specks
1 snow
3 drake pintails...of the 3 pintails...2 were killed in a 3 day span and all three were killed in about a 10day stretch. Image

We hunted the white and cache rivers the first 5-6 days we were out bc the club was frozen....

once the forecast started showing some warming i hauled ass to the club and just waited for the thaw. It took several days for it to thaw completely and I def needed a few catch-up days to recover from sinking a boat and fighting the public crowd for a week ....we killed 300 ducks (over half mallards) in a 4 day stretch and the beatings continued up until I left. Feetsy managed to make utmost for a few days and we got on em good one morning. 10 green, 5 sprigs, 2 teal...all drakes

All in all, it was a great season as always ...regardless of what the kill strap looked like at days end.

Thank ya. You've had quite the season as well. I only spent about 40 days out there this year as opposed to the normal 7-8weeks but I got my fill. I'm just thankful and fortunate to even have the opportunity to spend that much time out there.

Few more I left off:

Ham picked up his 1,000 bird as well
ImageImage

Lottaboom picked up her 3,600

Ace's final number was 8,060

We had a members daughter kill her first speck and 4 other "first ducks".

I'd trade someone as many wood ducks as you want for nice Drake Pintale.

AR Dave - I enjoy you're comments and enthusiasm, you will kill a nice Pintail Drake hopefully in the near future. I'm after one with aluminum on his leg, and when I kill him, I'm going to dance a jig over his carcass.

We have 14 members and usually a few members have guests ...we also have 8 pits spread out over three different farms throughout Poinsette County ...from Weiner to Harrisburg to Jonesboro to Cash

Lowest pit...as far as birds go.... has first pick the following day ...top pit of the day obviously goes to the back of the line and has last pick...

As far as hunting parties go...there's no particular order or assignment ...we have a great group of guys that are unselfish and very respectful and courteous ....we all get along very well. Everyone works together in order to ensure everyone gets the best opportunity to get on a good hunt or two before they leave.

Say...you are only in for the weekend ..2-3 days...and I'm in for 2 weeks....I obviously have more time so it's not as important to me that I get top pit if I'm low pit that day...instead I'll let you step up and take my pick or either hop in with our party and hunt ....

For example, if I show up at camp tonight and I haven't hunted yet...I have the option to join the group that has first pick for the following morning.

Moral of the story....it's never been a problem and the "system" that we use is the best possible way to ensure that you get at least one good hunt in while you're at camp whether it's for 1 day or 10 days

As I mentioned...we have 8 pits ...most of the time there aren't more than 10ppl at camp anyhow. If there is, it's on weekends.

Well I guess we have the same kind of thing but not formal. We hunt a blind no more than once, maybe twice, in a week. We're always scouting the holes and looking for the next good hunt. Since I have time, like you, I could go get em everyday - but my buddies wouldn't be buddies long. LOL We are very careful on how the birds are disturbed, some roosting fields are only hunted 4 or 5 times a season and we get out of there by 4pm, so the witching doesn't catch us. Maybe if we were on the eastern side of the state, we wouldn't have to manage our hunts so much. For me - a hunting club might not work so well, I'd probably get kicked out pretty quick. :)

Got home from the hunt just in time to say goodbye to this guy. Image

He had been having trouble the last few weeks. We were excited to find out it wasn't cancer last week, but he lost his battle tonight. This is the second year in a row I've buried my duck dog on the second to last day.
