Nice pic's mr. Future man.

Alright - corrected the date to this Century.

Whole lot of ducks - all over the swamps, pulled up in the weeds, just relaxed and I guess paired off. Even some Pintails. I'm having some wood duck houses built - I really do have a wood duck haven. Might as well put some boxes up, help em out a bit, maybe it's not too late this year. Interesting to sit in the blind and watch what they do naturally.

Cool pics.
Ducks galore down here. Theyve hung around longer than usual this year with all the late fronts. Almost hurts to watch. Its a long wait til september....
Meanwhile, the bass are heating up around here. Caught a good mess on beds other day. Once it gets too hot for fishing, ill become mostly nocturnal. Roaming the banklines with a spotlight on my head, a cigar in my mouth, a beer in one hand and grabbin a bullfrog with the other.

I'm not getting any loving on my new pirogue - I paid $60 for. Have to replace the trim. I'm pretty excited - I tried it out in pond, very shallow free board and slips through the water fast.

Planted corn in all the duck holes and deer food plots, last week. Oh we got a helicopter to spray some places where we're going to dump rice out.. Got to use the right tools. lol

That's impressive, and glad to hear you didn't run into any snakes. I ran into a good sized copperhead and a couple cotton mouths in LA this weekend.

Anyone have any experience or ideals on how to replace that trim on the pirogue?

My buddy tells me "I just remembered, I left another boat out in the swamp about 5 yrs ago" what? I said well let's get it now - before the snakes come out. We busted through a jungle of briars and sure enough. So I think I've gotten all the boats rounded up now. It's a Scooter Pirogue? I'll have to look this up - he sent me a pic today - already patched holes and half Camouflaged it.

The Pirogue, I bought for $60, is a Ron Chapman, was built in 1999, called a Cotton Mouth. $434 new. Hopefully I can get it repaired for less than $100. Wife said "what's up with the collection of Canoe's in the yard" :lol3:

I'm pretty excited about it. I've been wanting one for sometime, but didn't know which size would be big enough for me. The Cotton mouth is perfect. Have some Louisiana Hunters who've volunteered to relay the 14' Cypress Rails (trim) up to Byers Farm for me. This website has a pretty good return on investment. Anyway, the Pirogue has been power washed, decoys, and paddles are in it read for hunting season.

The reason I recognized the Ron Chapman, was because I posted this pic of the boat I really wanted, a couple of years ago. I just re-discovered the pic on my work computer desktop.

Sure hope the season starts off with this much water in my neck of the woods. I cleared out the duck weed last year, but think that was a mistake - I see it has floated in and growing around the Beaver Hut again.

Getting close - I was chipping the old clue off - had to come to work. Someone suggested I take it off with a sander - sounds better. I have a lot of Raffia I've never used - might have to throw some in. Took a new paddle, sanded the clear coat off, and stuck outside to gray. Indaswamp picked the rails up and brought them north.

The method I was told (by Chapman) to remove the old epoxy was to hit it from the top with a hammer along the edges...it's kind of squared off at the top and we hit it on the corners, popped right off...wear safety glasses! It took us about an hour to remove all the old epoxy and install the new vinyl rails on two pirogues.

I suspect that it will take quite some time for those new rails to rot/crack but when they do I strongly advise replacing them with the vinyl rails that Chapman offers now. My buddy and I had pirogues in similar shape to yours and just replaced the rails with the vinyl ones and the fiberglass end caps. What a difference that made!! Stiffened the boats up a lot and they wont ever rot/crack again!

Good luck with the new boat and you got one heck of a deal on it! Congrats!
