Need duck boat advice. War Eagle 1542 vs War Eagle 1648

Postby Flyingbrass » Sat Aug 27, 2005 9:10 pm

I was going to get the 1542 with a 25HP 2stroke so I could run on Bayou Meto. Then I got to thinking most places I'll need a 1648 with a 40hp or at least be safer and more comfortable with the big boat. I live in Hot Springs and it ain't easy to be a duck hunter here. Anyone want to chime in here before I spend some cash. The big local lakes that are close would be best with the 16 foot boat but I figure it'll be easier to get around in the 15 foot in the WMA's in flooded timber. My buddy who has the 1542 says it's a typical rookie mistake to think bigger is better and his 1542 is better than a 1648. Help.

Both are Great boats, If you hunt flooded timber a lot I would go for the 1542 little bit smaller you would be surprised and the difference a Foot and 5" will make... but if you fish also which most arkies do The 1648 will be a better fit for you.. but do what you think is best and what fits your budget best.

A 1648 with a 25 horse should handle what you want to do unless you're pushing around very large loads. I have a 1648 Alumacraft with 25 Merc and it handles 3 people and decoys just fine. It just doesn't do it very fast.
