Upper Butte Basin Sun 10/20 Question

Postby kej » Wed Oct 09, 2013 1:04 pm

I've bought into a blind by Gridley for this season and have a workday Sun 10/20 but no water until mid-Nov.

Have always wanted to check out Little Dry Creek or Howard Slough. What are my chances of being able to walk on for a couple of hours Sunday 10/20 late afternoon? Will it have opened up a little or am I dreaming?

Opening weekend expect a lot of hunters and a long wait on the sweatline. Your best bet would be to try and put in for lotto and hope for a low number

like WackNStack530 said, there will surely be a ton of hunters at both LDC and Howard. If you don't get a good lotto number at either one, Greylodge is the other close option where you will likely have a chance to get on and hunt.

Get there early sat at the lodge. Get a sweat line number. Head over to ldc for lotto. Get a good number at ldc return tag to grey lodge. Get a crappy number at ldc keep your sweat line tag and hunt the lodge.

Either way, make sure grey lodge gets thier tag back.

Don't forget they are never fully flooded and their quotas are lower.

If the Sac complex is still closed (Sac, Del, Colusa - with Sutter already planned to be closed til Nov), LDC will see a TON of Lotto guys, and the Lodge will also have a ton of hunters waiting

But, you will never know, unless you go.

Thanks all, that's what I was afraid of.

I will likely just wait for water in my blind.

But might still throw my gear in the back of the truck anyway and try to hit a refuge in the afternoon.

Work party on the 20th. Horrible timing.

Regardless of the govt shutdown, those places will have a ton of folks.
